This Software Company Buried a $1,000 Prize Deep In Its Terms Of Service To See If Anyone Actually Read Them. Take A Guess How Long It Took For Someone To Catch It.

8 years ago PC Pitstop, publisher of PC diagnostics tools, hid a clause in their EULA that offered a $1,000 prize to anyone who sent a note to a certain listed email address. That person was Doug Heckman, and it took 4 months and over 3,000 people before he found it. From PC Pitstop:

People don’t read EULAs. When we download and install software, we’re usually in a hurry to take advantage of whatever it offers. That EULA is just one more thing to spend time on, and we’re not just talking about a couple of minutes.

You still won’t be able to get me to go through license agreements though, no thanks.
