What’s the most annoying thing about eating at a restaurant? Having to wait for a server to take your order or bring you the bill? Having to converse with your dining companions rather than playing games on a tablet? Having to talk to people at all?
Well, you’re in luck, because Applebee’s hopes to solve all these problems and make convenience dining even convenient-er by putting a tablet on every table by the end of 2014.
You’ll be able to use the tablets the order appetizers and desserts, pay for your meal, and play games (??). You’ll still have to talk to a human being to order your meals, for reasons that aren’t entirely clear.
According to Applebee’s’ research, customers using the tablets spend more money on appetizers and desserts and leave larger tips. Presumably the tablets also get customers in and out of the restaurant quicker by cutting down on the amount of time they spend trying to flag down a server.
