Buzzfeed Tries a Bunch of Awful Vintage Recipes, Awfulness Ensues

What was going on in the ’60s and ’70s that made people want to eat things like “Ham and Bananas Hollandaise” and “Super Supper Salad Loaf“?

Oh, right. Well, whatever it was, it certainly spawned a cornucopia of heinous recipes we’d all be better off forgetting ever existed.

Unfortunately, thanks to the folks at Buzzfeed, we can’t forget. Recently, after unearthing a number of recipes for these terrifying culinary relics of the psychedelic ’60s and ’70s, some of Buzzfeed’s employees decided to whip up a few disturbing delicacies and eat them, on camera, for our amusement. Watch in horror as these young hipsters consume “foods” (we call them that very hesitantly) that were probably best left in the past. (Along with the go-go boots and the copious amounts of chest hair that were also once considered good ideas.)

To give you an idea of how bad it is, one test subject diner described his meal as “a recipe you would make if you had never heard of food before.” To be fair, the meal he ate did contain something called “tuna fish icing,” so I don’t think he’s too far off the mark.

Do you think 40 years in the future, people will look back on our Doritos Locos tacos and our Cinnabons with similar revulsion and disdain? Only time will tell.
